If you go down to McDonald’s today, you might notice something a little different on the menu.
That’s because the fast food chain has just launched a brand new dessert, which is accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society.
Known as Scoop, the vegan ice-cream style dessert, comes in two flavours, Choco or Strawberry, and is served in a tub, like a McFlurry but without any toppings.
McDonald’s has described the frozen product, which costs £1.59, as ‘deliciously smooth and creamy’ and says that it’s like ‘summer in a scoop’.
However, there is a catch, and a pretty big one at that. For now, the Vegan Scoop will only be available in 52 restaurants, as part of a trial in the North West of England.
Locations involved in the trial include Manchester, Rochdale, Ardwick, Bury, Denton, Stockport, and Ashton-Under-Lyne.
The trial will be running from June 12 to September 3, and if all goes well the vegan dessert will hopefully be launching in McDonald’s restaurants nationwide in 2025.
Vegans can also currently cool off with a McFreezy, a frozen ice dessert with fruit juice and puree, which is available in either Orange, or Mango and Pineapple flavour.
However, it’s worth noting the McFreezy also isn’t available nationwide yet, but can be found in 187 restaurants across the North West region and select places in the Republic of Ireland. UK locations include Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside.
Other items that are accredited vegan on the menu include burgers such as the McPlant and the Vegetable Deluxe, Veggie Dippers, the Spicy Veggie wrap, Fries, Cucumber Sticks, and the Fruit Bag.
In addition to new food, McDonald’s also has a new competition that customers can take advantage of, and you could win £200 in the process.
Surprize Fries is similar to McDonald’s Monopoly game, in which you peel off stickers from food items to reveal prizes such as free food, limited-edition merch, money, and tickets to the hottest summer festivals and events, in partnership with See Tickets.

From now until July 2, customers at the chain will be able to win a selection of prizes, including up to £200 in cash, just by ordering Medium or Large Fries.
Millions of other prizes are up for grabs as part of this five week promotion, some of which will be instant win items, while others will receive a code to enter in the MyMcDonald’s App to see what they’ve won.
The chain will also be giving away free fries throughout the summer as the food truck hits the road to pop up at some of the biggest festivals around the UK.
As part of the brand’s 50th anniversary celebrations, more than 2,000 portions of fries will be given away for free, as well as exclusive merchandise such as bum bags, bucket hats and Wayferer style sunglasses.

The food truck will be attending events such as Parklife in Manchester, Isle of Wight festival, Wireless, Flackstock, and Leeds Festival.
Festivalgoers will be able to find Maccies in both the main arena and VIP areas to get their hands on some free fries. There will also be an iconic Golden Arches glimmering statue popping up to take Insta-worthy snaps with.
But don’t panic if you don’t have tickets to any of these events, as you can still get your hands on some fabulous freebies throughout the summer. And you might even be able to nab festival tickets.
Simply keen an eye on the McDonald’s social media channels over the coming months as there will be plenty of exclusive giveaways happening on there.
And the chain will also have a few surprises up its sleeve over the coming weeks to celebrate the summer of the Euros.
